McKenzie Security Alert: Auto break-ins last night / White van luring kids

The Wake County Sherriff was in the neighborhood again Wednesday, May 9. Several open cars were apparently burgled between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning at the back end of McKenzie Drive. We had a similar event several months ago. This time a wallet and cash from one neighber were taken. Please park your cars in the garage or make sure to lock them at night. If you see anything suspicious, please report it to the Wake County Sheriff and send a notice to so we can be on the alert.

WTVD-11 News van in the neighborhood today

Residents may have noticed a WTVD news van driving along McKenzie Drive and sitting near the front entrance doing a live remote broadcast. WTVD is following up on a story about Aqua (our water supplier) that appeared in the News and Observer this week. The news crew was looking for neighbors who would speak on camera about issues we have been having with water quality going back several years.

Leslie Fetzer wins National Online K-12 Teacher of the Year award!

One of McKenzie's own, Leslie Fetzer, has just won the online teacher of the year award for the K-12 grade levels. Leslie teaches biology at North Carolina Virtual Public school working with grades 10-12. This is quite an honor and we are very proud of her!

Leslie has taught in traditional classrooms but made the change to online. She has been in her current position for three years. She is able to tailor her learning plans to each student. More and more people are registering for online courses and certifications, so Leslie is at the cutting edge of educational technology.

Caution around the large pond: Beaver traps set again

We have Beaver activity again around the large pond. We have placed three snap traps and a three snares around the pond. Please note that all the traps are IN the water, with part of the trap sticking out of the water. The snap traps should be plainly visible and marked with vertical sticks on each side. All of the traps are on HOA property, but just in case anyone walks a pet or has children who would go wading in the muddy water, be aware of the traps.
